Solar Panels Stop Working in Pakistan? 5 Problems and Fixes

Solar Panels Stop Working in Pakistan? 5 Common Problems and Easy Fixes

You installed solar panels to get free electricity. But one day, you see low power or no power. Don’t panic. Most problems are simple. You can fix them yourself without calling a technician.

I have seen thousands of solar systems in Pakistan. Here are the 5 most common problems and their easy fixes.

Problem 1: Dust and Bird Droppings on Panels

What happens: Your solar system works but gives very low power. On a sunny day, production is half of normal.

Why: Pakistan has dust. Birds sit on panels. The dirt blocks sunlight.

Easy fix: Clean your panels every 15 days. Use a soft cloth or a squeegee with clean water. Do it early morning when panels are cool. Never use soap or hard brush.

Problem 2: Loose DC Wire Connection

What happens: Solar system stops working completely or works on and off. Inverter shows “No PV Input” error.

Why: Wires get loose due to wind or poor installation. DC connectors can come apart.

Easy fix: Turn off the system. Check all red and black MC4 connectors between panels and inverter. Push them until you hear a click. Tighten any loose screws inside the combiner box.

Problem 3: Tripped Breaker or Blown Fuse

What happens: Suddenly no power. Inverter screen is off or shows error.

Why: A sudden voltage spike or lightning can trip the breaker. Or a fuse blew.

Easy fix: Open your AC distribution box. Look for the breaker labeled “Solar” or “Inverter”. If it is in the middle (off), switch it back ON. If a glass fuse is black inside, replace it with same rating.

Problem 4: Shading from New Construction or Trees

What happens: Your system worked fine for years. Now power is low. Panels are clean. Wires are tight.

Why: A new building, tree, or water tank is casting shade on even one panel. One shaded panel affects the whole string.

Easy fix: Check your panels between 10 AM and 2 PM. If you see shade, cut the tree or move the panel. If you cannot remove shade, ask a technician to install optimizers.

Problem 5: Inverter Overheating in Summer

What happens: In summer afternoons, inverter stops working. It starts again in evening. You see “Over Temp” error.

Why: Pakistani summers are very hot. Inverters get hot if placed in direct sun or inside a small room without air.

Easy fix: Install inverter in a shaded, ventilated place. Never put it in a closed box. Clean the inverter fan with a dry brush. If possible, add a small fan or move inverter to a cooler room.

Bonus: When to Call a Professional

Some problems need an expert. Call a technician if:

  • You smell burning or see smoke.
  • The inverter shows a “Ground Fault” or “Isolation” error.
  • You have tried all fixes and still no power.
  • Your solar panels are physically cracked or broken.

Final Tips

  • Check your solar production daily through your inverter screen or app.
  • Keep a log of normal production. When it drops, you will know quickly.
  • Do not open the inverter yourself. It has high voltage inside.
  • Schedule a professional check once a year before summer starts.
